SOMETHING LIKE HATE by Harloe Rae

Release date: June 10th

Genre/Tropes: Enemies-to-lovers/Billionaire Romance/Office Romance

A sizzling all-new enemies-to-lovers romance from USA Today bestselling author Harloe Rae where a billionaire CEO battles against a snarky redhead who has her own agenda.

Synopsis

“I’d say it’s nice to meet you, but I’ve never been a good liar.”

That’s his initial offense against me.

Don’t worry—there’s plenty more where that came from.

Landon Winters is colder than his last name suggests.

Cruel and callous too.

I’m certain he finds pleasure in making others miserable.

He’s a billionaire by his own making—not satisfied with simply inheriting a white collar and silver spoon.

Landon’s arrogance is so thick I could choke on the stench alone.

He’s also responsible for gouging a jaded chip into my shoulder.

The only saving grace is never having to see him again.

Wishful thinking is a fickle beast.

My boss just announced that Landon is my latest client.

I’ll need to impress him or kiss my promotion goodbye.

Either way, this is my chance to get even.

Revenge is all I see.

The price for redemption is steep.

Landon will pay a small fortune in humiliation.

And I’ll walk away filthy rich in vindication.

EXCERPT

“So, neither of us is willing to surrender.” His slight detour in topic raises my hackles. He could derail our discussion for hours with a few misplaced words.

I roll my neck, a few joints popping with the stretch. “I guess that leaves us to finally getting down to business.”

“It’s about damn time you’ve warmed up to my idea.” He reclines in his chair with a moan any porn star would envy.

“Oh, please, stop.” A retching sound yanks from my throat.

“Why should I? You’re quite gorgeous, Savannah.”

“Quit flirting with me.” My tone borders on begging.

“Why?” A curious sparkle twinkles in his gaze as he repeats the question.

“It’s… weird.”

“Only because you like me hitting on you.”

I make another show of choking on bile. “You’ll never get me to admit such a despicable thing.”

“A new challenge? I accept.”

Why does it feel like I just signed my own resignation notice? Veering this conversation onto professional ground is my only chance to salvage his account. “Ditto, which is precisely what your demands are to me. Did you get my emails with the listings?”

Landon scowls. “Yes, but that can wait.”

“It should take precedence. I’m prepared to accomplish actual progress on finding you a property. That’s why I’m here, remember?”

“Terms and conditions change by the minute.”

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Publication Date: June 10, 2021

I truly love the enemies-to-lovers trope and was so happy to be approved to receive a copy of an ARC.
This is the first book I’ve read by Harloe Rae, but I have to admit, it took me a while to get used to her writing voice.

I really liked the premise of the story, but the banter between the protagonists was just so toxic, I thought I was going to lose a part of my soul just reading the schemes and lengths the characters were willing to go to in order to one-up the other.

I had to put the book down for a couple of days just to convince myself to give it a second chance and see where the author was going with the story.

I’m glad I did because it was definitely looking like it was going to be a DNF for me.

I absolutely HATED Landon Winters!
He was cruel, cold and conniving and the author did a fantastic job of making the reader hate him.
But, the reader doesn’t know how diabolical he is until he deals his final blow to Savannah Simon that has her leaving him almost broken.

What you have to understand is that Savannah is no push-over. She’s strong, smart, funny, and snarky.

She gives as good as she gets, but Landon is just so broken that he crosses a line that should never be crossed.

His journey to redemption with Savannah is what gives this book a 3-star rating and worth the read.

I’m glad I finished it, and now that I know what to expect in Ms. Rae’s stories I look forward to reading more of her work.

Things are about to get sticky…

Beefcakes, an all-new hilarious, second-chance standalone romance from Katana Collins, is coming March 24th and we have the FIRST sneak peek!

Synopsis

I might as well permanently add the label “Ex” to my name. I’m an Ex-Mr. Universe. Ex-Mr. Olympus. An Ex-Hollywood Stuntman. But no one from my small hometown cares anything about that. They only care that I’m the ex-boyfriend to the beloved Mayor’s daughter, Elaina Dyker.

And now, ten years later, I’m back, helping my siblings run my mother’s bakery while she takes on chemo. What should have been a routine cupcake delivery turns into utter chaos when the bachelorette party thinks I’m a stripper. And what’s worse? Elaina is the maid of honor.

But the meme about us sure went viral fast. My small hometown has become positively infested with tipsy bridesmaids looking for my erotic cupcakes.

Now Hollywood’s knocking again—and this time they want me and my ex, Mr. Beefcake and Ms. Prude, to star in a reality show.

It could solve all my problems—except her.

Excerpt

“I arched my brow at her. “I bragged about knowing you so well…but man. I did not see this almond croissant massacre coming. What do you have against almonds? Or was it the amount of butter that offended you? Because as a fitness expert, let me tell you butter isn’t the enemy. Sugar is the enemy.”

She laughed. “I, uh…I might have some anger management issues.”

I took the bag from her and peeked in. There were knuckle marks against the outside of the croissant. Literal knuckle marks. I barked a laugh. “Elaina Dyker. Did you punch the croissant?”

She laughed, pressing her lips together as though this would hide the fact that I saw her adorable little giggle. She brought her thumb and forefinger up beside her temple. “Maybe a little.”“Did you even try a bite?”

She shook her head no. “I like my routine. I like my daily lunch of yogurt and almonds.”

I made a face. Because she had to be exaggerating. Sure…she liked them. But having that same thing every day? Even chocolate cake every day would get tedious. “You can like yogurt and almonds but still indulge every now and then, you know.” I reached in and pinched off a piece of the smashed croissant, holding it out toward her lips. “C’mon. Live a little. I promise you, it is actually healthy, if that’s your concern.” Not that she needed to be concerned about that. “Almond flour. Gluten-free. Grain-free. Only two net carbs. The only sugar is the honey in the honey roasted almonds and the natural sugar in dates.” Her eyes grew wide at that and I knew I had hooked her.

She reached out her hand to take the piece of croissant from me, but I pulled back. “Nuh-uh,” I teased. “We can’t have your fingers getting sticky. Might ruin that fancy suit you’re wearing.”

She rolled her eyes, but parted her wet lips, her tongue peeking out just enough for me to place the croissant on top of. She moaned as soon as it hit her mouth, and her eyes fell closed as she slowly chewed and swallowed. “That’s…that’s healthy?”

I nodded. “See? I’m not just a pile of muscles. I’ve got some talent, too.”

Her head fell to the side. “I never said you weren’t talented. I just wish you wouldn’t show off quite so much of your other assets.”

I grinned. “I thought you liked my assets?”

“I do,” she answered absentmindedly, then immediately shook her head, realizing what she’d said. “I mean, I did.””

About Katana

As an author and a story-teller, it is the lifeblood to which my ideas take flight. And I believe in giving credit where credit is due. Occasionally someone (ie – my husband) will try to secretly switch out my beloved regular coffee for decaf. I always know the difference. ALWAYS (I’m looking at you, SEAN).

I am incapable of achieving the perfect ponytail. I’m dyslexic. I can never wear white without spilling on myself. And I’ve never read Pride and Prejudice (gasp!).

When I was younger and stole my mother’s Harlequins to read beneath the covers with a flashlight (seriously, did we ALL do this? I think we did.), I wanted to read about the tough as nails heroine. The perfectly imperfect girl with quirks and attitude and sass. And the anti-heroes who were anything but “Prince Charming.” Forget the knight on a white horse… give me the bad boy on a motorcycle.

So, now, I write those romance novels I craved to see on the shelves all those years ago—the sassy heroines. The badass heroes. I spend my days in the throes of my imagination, and am loving every minute of it. I can travel anywhere and become anyone I want to be. One day, I’m a mechanic in Boston and the next, I’m a vampire stripping in Las Vegas.

Since penning my first novel back in 2012, I’m now an international author with 15 published books, in a wide range of contemporary romance genres–(Paranormal, New Adult, Smalltown, Erotic Suspense… you name it!).

After living for a decade in Brooklyn, NY, I took the plunge and moved to beautiful (although kinda chilly) Portland, Maine. I now live full time in ‘Vacationland’ with a kind of mean cat, a mellow chihuahua, and a very NOT mellow lab-pittie mix. Oh, yeah… there’s a husband who draws comics somewhere in that mix, too.  I can usually be found in a coffee shop with my nose in my laptop wearing fabulous (albeit sometimes impractical) shoes.

I love connecting with readers and fellow sassy storytellers, so feel free to drop me an email at katana.collins@gmail.com or connect with me on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter (@katanacollins). You can find a list of my available books over on my Bookshelf  or if you’ve already read a book, it would make my day if you wrote a review!

An all-new STANDALONE from New York Times bestselling author Julia Kent
Synopsis

It all started with the wrong Help Wanted ad. Of course, it did.

banner

I’m a professional fluffer. It’s NOT what you think. I stage homes for a living. Real estate agents love me, and my work stands on its own merits.

Sigh. Get your mind out of the gutter. Go ahead. Laugh. I’ll wait.

See? That’s the problem. My career has used the term “fluffer” for decades. I didn’t even know there was a more… lascivious definition of the term.

Until it was too late.

The ad for a “professional fluffer” on Craigslist seemed like divine intervention. My last unemployment check was in the bank. I was desperate. Rent was due. The ad said cash paid at the end of the day. The perfect job!

Staging homes means showing your best angle. The same principle applies in making a certain kind of movie. Turns out a “fluffer” doesn’t arrange decorative pillows on a couch.

They arrange other soft, round-ish objects.

The job isn’t hard. Er, I mean, it is — it’s about being hard. Or, well… helping other people to be hard.

Oh, man…

And that’s the other problem. A man. No, not one of the stars on the movie set. Will Lotham – my high school crush. The owner of the house where we’re filming. Illegally. In a vacation rental.

By the time the cops show up, what I thought was just a great house staging gig turned into a nightmare involving pictures of me with an undressed star, Will rescuing me from an arrest, and a humiliating lesson in my own naivete.

My job turned out to be so much harder than I expected. But you know what’s easier than I ever imagined?

Having all my dreams come true.

“5 – I always know where I’m going with you STARS!”

Wow!
This was such a funny, smart, fun read!
I thoroughly enjoyed getting lost in this story and its characters.
It was fun reading about Will and Mallory reconnecting after 14 years (even if it was under the most unusual circumstances) and developing a new, fresh adult relationship.

Fluffy-IG-ad-2

The beginning of this book had me hooked right from the start.
What started as a job opportunity for Mallory Monahan quickly turns into one of the most embarrassing situations that could happen to a person.
This is also when she reconnects with Will.

Excerpt

“Do you use the proper terms for everything, Mallory?” He makes an inarticulate sound as I peel the gauze off the cut, wiping gently. “You call your pretty place a vulva, right? And you use the word vagina.”

“’Pretty place’?”

He shrugs.

“And yes, I do. Vulva and vagina. And then there’s the clitoris,” I say primly.

“What’s that?”

“What’s what?”

“A clitoris. Never heard of it.”

I freeze and look down at him. Bright eyes meet mine. Is he serious?

“The clitoris is a nerve cluster above the opening to the vagina,” I begin, taking a breath to continue my impromptu human sexuality lecture, because when a man tells you they don’t know what a clitoris is, you educate them immediately.

For the sisterhood. All the women Will is going to sleep with from here on out will thank me later.

He starts to laugh. I’m so tempted to pour the small bottle of isopropyl alcohol directly on his wound, but I’m a kind, compassionate woman, so instead, I dab it on with a swab.

“OW!” he bellows.

“Sorry.”

“You’re not sorry at all.”

“I’m sorry for your sex partners that you have no idea what a clitoris is, Will.”

“I know what it is. And my tongue knows how to find one. Blindfolded.”

“Why would you blindfold your tongue?”

Author Bio

New York Times and USA Today Bestselling Author Julia Kent writes romantic comedy with an edge. From billionaires to BBWs to new adult rock stars, Julia finds a sensual, goofy joy in every contemporary romance she writes. Unlike Shannon from Shopping for a Billionaire, she did not meet her husband after dropping her phone in a men’s room toilet (and he isn’t a billionaire). She lives in New England with her husband and three kids in a household where Julia apparently is the only one who possesses the gene necessary to change empty toilet paper rolls.

She put on latex gloves, set out gauze and saline solution. Cleaning the wound would burn like hell. “This is going to hurt.”

“When it comes to you, I’m accustomed to pain.”

The sting of his words bled through her, but she didn’t let her equanimity falter.

“Whatever doesn’t kill you makes you stronger.” She squeezed the saline into the wound.

He gave a sharp hiss and tightened his jaw. The bullet had clipped his deltoid, but there wasn’t any damage to the axillary nerve. She tore open a packet of Celox, a grainy blood-clotting agent that didn’t burn like some others and would help him heal faster. Rubbing a little powder deep in his wound, she worked quickly to minimize his discomfort. She pressed clean gauze to it, wrapping it with a pressure bandage.

“There. Should be good until we get you stitches. Lucky there’s no major damage.”

“You’re pretty good at that.” He nodded down at his arm.

She tugged the gloves off. “I’ve had a lot of practice.” Patching up herself and battle brothers in the field was her only hobby. No time for anything else in her life.

His gaze found hers and his dark eyes held her ensnared.

The dangerous edge running through him, drawing her in, had always been the backbone of the young man she’d fallen for. But the wear and tear of time looked good on him, worked in his favor. A sophisticated accessory. As did the arresting refinement of his body, hard curves and sharp angles. More tempting than ever.

Brutally gorgeous. He’d been hers once. She’d give anything to have him again. For a day. For an hour. Damn, she’d take ten minutes.

She caressed his cheeks, leaning into the warmth of his body. A tremble of longing shivered through the center of her, and she didn’t hide it.

He brushed his knuckles over her bruised cheek. Her skin tingled, nerve endings awash in the muscle memory of his strong hands sweeping over her in the darkness, their limbs inexorably tangled, his strained breath in her ear, sweat coating their skin.

The heat in his eyes burned bright and hot as a signal fire, inviting her home. The knots in her stomach loosened as new ones bunched in her chest. Old scars growing sore as a fresh wound opened. The years she’d spent piecing herself back together, trying to recover from the agonizing loss of this—while he was out in the world, alive and well all along. She swatted the thought away, not wanting anything to spoil those ten minutes.

He cupped the back of her leg, caressing bare skin, pulling her closer. Her thighs quivered and her breath grew shallow. He slid his palm to cradle her head, guiding her lips toward his.

The suspended moment whetted her anticipation. Her toes curled into the carpet, heart palpitating wildly like hummingbird wings in her throat.

His mouth claimed hers, or hers claimed his. She didn’t know, didn’t care, lost in the shocking relief of the kiss.

Like being submerged under water, fighting for air, drowning in the abyss, lungs too tight. Then busting through the surface into sunlight, gulping in a life-giving breath.

That’s what it was like kissing Cole.

Excerpt

“Nothing rattles you, does it?” she said softly. “Nothing raises your blood pressure. Sometimes I wonder if you are a robot. Do you have a beating heart, Tobias, or are you made of chips and wires?”

“I am not a robot,” Tobias said firmly. His pulse quickened. Could she feel that? He had no control over it or his growing erection. He needed to get out of this stairwell. “Sabrina, this is—”

Without warning, her lips slammed into his. The kiss was hard, searching. He didn’t have the strength to stop her even if he’d wanted to. Something primal and urgent caused his hand to tangle in her hair and his tongue to sweep into her mouth. By the Mountain, she tasted good. He forgot where he was, forgot who he was. All too soon, she planted both hands on his chest and pushed him away.

“Not a robot.” She panted, breathless.
