It’s been a long time since I’ve read a Christian contemporary romance book.
This is the 3rd book in the Summer Harbor series, and can be read as a stand-alone. Since I didn’t read the previous books I had no problem following the storyline and it’s characters, but I think my reading experience would have been enriched had I read the previous books.
This is a wonderful story of friends to lovers ( well not actually lovers, but to MORE). The lead male character is also a returning injured Marine who has to deal with the loss of a leg, survivors guilt, and PTSD .
His ” best friend” and the girl he’s been in love with since he was a teenager is the person who has offered to care for him and help him with his recovery.
However he wants nothing more than to cut ties with her because He’s not the man he once was and can’t stand the thought of being around her if she’s with some else…someone whole.
The story and writing were really good, and the characters were well developed.
But, half way through the story I found myself skimming ahead because the story started to drag.
It later picked up towards the end, and the flow of the story continued on from there nicely.
I really liked the ending ( wonderful HEA).
Good read!
